I purchased 200' to stick on the underside of my rain gutters. During install, I used a broom (wood) to attach the lights (pushing them up to the rain gutter). I discovered that the weight of the other lights/string will pull the installed ones down. The result is an avalanching domino effect as you watch everything fall to the ground (I broke two lights). Broom stick idea = fail.

Definitely hard mount the very first light you put up!

I ended up placing hooks approximately every 20+ feet, as breakers, to prevent the avalanching domino effect. The advantage is moving the ladder every 20 to 30 feet and placing a hook/anchor/avalanching domino effect breaker. Once your anchor is in place, pull the string tight. Then watch with joy as 20+ feet of Christmas lights simultaneously magnetize themselves to the rain gutter.

Once the entire length of string is up they seem to be solid as a rock.

Other than the two lights which I broke during installation, I had full functionality. The manufacturer sent along replacement parts Magnets and bases) but no lamps.
